Leopard has “Preview Icon” Mode enabled by default (which makes your Icons indistinguishable from each other). To get your Icon view back, just “right click” or “ctrl + click”, in the blank area of the finder window and select “Show View Options”.

Now, uncheck the box that says “Show icon preview”. You also have the option to click the “Use as Defaults”, button at the bottom and it will change all icons system wide. I have mine set that way. I then went to my Music and Movies folder and set only those 2 folders to Icon Preview.
